David Kato: The Courageous Voice for LGBTQ+ Rights in Uganda

David Kato was a Ugandan teacher and LGBTQ+ rights activist who fought against the country’s harsh anti-homosexuality laws. He was one of the founders of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), an organization advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. In 2011, Kato was brutally murdered after being outed by a local newspaper. His death brought international attention to the plight of LGBTQ+ individuals in Uganda. Kato’s activism continues to inspire LGBTQ+ movements across Africa.
